Morning Rituals to Bring Calm To Your Day

When you think about it, it’s truly a miracle that the sun rises anew every morning. The thing, though, is that we almost never actually remember what a miracle it is, or take a moment to celebrate it. Whether we jump out of bed early and eager or tend to press snooze one time too many, we often don’t think about the opportunities the new day is giving us, or what we might like to manifest today.

Creating a calming morning ritual that serves you can help bring peace to your day, making it a lovely part of self care and living more mindfully. This isn’t about what you ‘should’ do every morning to cram in more work and productivity. This is about what I can choose to do to live better and stay in the present.

Calming Morning Rituals

Here are some age-old morning rituals that can bring calm, joy, and meaning to your day. Find some that work for you, and enjoy.

Wake up at the same time every day

Even on Saturdays! Yes, it’s tempting to sleep in and catch up on zzz’s. But having a fixed waking time can greatly improve your quality of sleep over time. Plus, the more you get up at the same time each morning, the less reliant you’ll be on your alarm clock (and it’s so much nicer to be woken up by your own body clock than by a screaming digital one).

Hydrate

If you’re only going to stick to one morning ritual, make it this one. A nice tall glass of water or herbal tea will wake you up and start hydrating your body right away. Think of it like a little gift to your body each day.

Pause

How you pause in the morning will look a little different for everyone. If you’re just starting your mindfulness practice, maybe it will simply mean taking a quick, quiet moment in bed before you pull back the sheets. Or you might like to light a candle, sip some spiced tea, and enjoy a quiet moment or two, before things get hectic

To kick things up a notch, take 10 deep breaths, inhaling for four seconds and exhaling for eight. You might be surprised with how relaxing this is.

Either way, find a way to pause that works for you, and try to stick to it each morning.

Move

Mindfully moving in the morning is just as important as mindfully pausing. Always do what feels right for your body. Some people love to exercise in the morning. For others, yoga or a walk around the block is nice. Or simply stretch out your arms and legs. You’ll feel so much better once you’ve stretched your muscles and gotten a little blood flowing.

Journal

Many people really enjoy journaling in the morning. Again, you can make this as simple or as complex as you like. Simply writing down three things you’re grateful for is a great place to start.

Make A Healthy Breakfast

Forget ‘grab and go.’ Nourish your body instead and make yourself a healthy, filling, and enjoyable breakfast in the morning. Opt for fresh ingredients like eggs, fruit, vegetables, and whole grains.

Where possible, opt for food choices that are both healthy and ethically sourced, like our cruelty-free organic loose leaf tea

Embrace Self Care

Sadly, ‘self care’ has become synonymous with elaborate and often expensive practices—when in reality, the best self care is often small, simple moments you give yourself throughout the day.

And these little moments are easy to incorporate into a calming morning routine.

So make skin care a part of your morning routine, and try to savour your time in the shower. Slip on a pretty crystal bracelet to bring good luck. Welcome the sun with a sol scented candle, and take a minute to enjoy the notes of delicate petals, damson plum, amber, and sandalwood.

Remember, self-care will look a little different for everyone. But it matters, just like a calming morning routine matters. We hope you find one that serves you.
